This activity can take 25 minutes or it can take an hour...depending on whether or not you choose to ignore some pretty obvious hints. This activity is about procedure and repetition, so pay close attention and it will go fairly quickly.
Modify all of the heads to create different faces out of the provided face parts.
_ SERIOUSLY! GROUP THE HEAD PARTS BEFORE CHOOSING FACIAL PARTS!
_ SERIOUSLY! GROUP FACIAL PARTS BEFORE MOVING THEM!
_ SERIOUSLY! The previous 2 lines are in bold for a reason!
_ You'll run out of eyes and facial parts. So, you'll need to get more by copying and pasting.
_ Use the isolation technique to give each head crossed eyes, yellow teeth, etc. Minimally, each head will have an isolated modification in the "facial parts" group as well as a modification in the "head parts" group.

Assignment: Transformation Tools
Use the transformation tools to transform the objects. It's pretty much a no brainer.

Assignment: COWBOY UP
There are two ways to execute a transformation of a cowboy part:
1) select and manually drag into position and 2) select and use a dialog box, then enter numbers to effect the desired transformation. Both methods require you to establish a "point of origin." This is the point from which or around which the transformation occurs. In this cowboy assembly worksheet, several of the objects are grouped together. In Illustrator, clicking on an object that is in a group will select the group. If you need to select an object inside a group, there are three ways to isolate a object to select: 1) upgroup the group containing the object (not usually recommended) 2) use the group select tool to select objects inside of groups, or 3) expand the group listing in the Layers palette, then click on the selection button for that object on the palette. |

TRANSFORMATION METHODS
SAVE and SUBMIT
Before saving the file, you need to finish the project by performing the following steps:
Select Object>Path>Cleanup. This deletes any stray points or unpainted objects.
- Manual - After selecting the object to be transformed, choose the appropriate transformation tool. Move the cursor to the desired position and click to establish the "point of origin" for the transformation operation. A small crosshair-like symbol appears where you clicked and the cursor turns into an arrow. Click and drag to execute the transformation. If a copy is wanted instead of changing the original, AFTER starting the drag process press the Alt key BEFORE releasing the mouse button. This method allows you to interactively transform an object, trusting your eye to know when the operation is complete.
- Dialog box - As with the manual method, select the object and choose the desired transformation tool. The difference is while pressing the Alt key, move the cursor to the desire position and click to establish the "point of origin" for the transformation operation. A dialog box appears. Fill in the appropriate fields, depending on which tool is used, then click the OK or COPY button to execute the transformation.
- Repeat multiple copies - If multiple copies are needed — adding buttons on the chaps, for example — after the first COPY transformation is establish, you can use the Transform Again command (CTRL-D keyboard shortcut) in the Object Menu to repeat the transformation/copy operation.
